Lally Professors Hasan and Francis Recognized As Top Contributors to Financial Management Association Conference

The Financial Management Association (FMA) Annual Meeting is one of the largest academic conferences in finance each year. Recent research finds that Lally professors Iftekhar Hasan and Bill B. Francis have been the top contributors to this prestigious conference since 1996.

The Editors of Financial Review conducted research on contributors to the Financial Management Association’s conference over the last fourteen years.  Lally Finance Professors Iftekhar Hasan and Bill B. Francis ranked first and second, respectively, as authors with the most appearances on FMA Annual meeting programs from 1996-2009.  Dr. Hasan, the Cary L. Wellington Professor of Finance, appeared 57 times and was one of only six authors who appeared on the FMA Annual Meeting program every year over the fourteen year period surveyed.  Dr. Francis, Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Fellow, appeared 54 times at FMA Annual meetings, and was one of fourteen authors appearing 13 of the last 14 years.  Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ranks #19 of the top 151 institutions by author appearances at the FMA Annual meeting programs.

The forthcoming study is entitled “An Analysis of the FMA Annual Meetings:  Presentation Activity of Institutions and Individuals, 1996-2009” by Jared F. Egginton, Bonnie F. Van Ness and Robert A. Van Ness of the University of Mississippi.

Established in 1970, the FMA is a global leader in developing and disseminating knowledge about financial decision making.  The mission of the FMA is to broaden the common interests between academicians and practitioners, provide opportunities for professional interaction among academicians, practitioners and students, promote the development and understanding of basic and applied research and of sound financial practices, and to enhance the quality of education in finance.  FMA's members include more than 12,000 finance practitioners, academicians and students who are interested in the techniques and advances which define the field of finance.
